• Adult (18+) Volunteer Program Har-Ber Village Museum’s mission is to collect and preserve historical items, authentic to the American experience, for the whole family to enjoy and understand within a scenic and inspirational setting. The majority of the artifacts on display in the Museum came from within a 100-mile radius and date from the 1830s to the 1920s.
Following is a list of possible volunteer opportunities at Har-Ber Village. On the application, you may check any that interest you and/or for which you feel you have skills or experience. After completing the form, click on the submit button, and we will be in touch with you shortly!
SCHOOL PROGRAM DEVELOPMENT/SCHOOL TOUR GUIDE School groups visit in spring and fall. Currently they tour on their own or visit on a special event day. Help develop the tours and/or help to present them. Assist with activities on school special event days.
DOCENT/RESEARCH ASSISTANT Choose an exhibit or theme of interest to you. Research objects on display and/or information about the display and how it relates to 19th century rural life. Share this information by putting it into written format for use as a study guide and/or interpretive panel for the exhibit. Staff the exhibit during the season and share information with visitors. Docent commitment is one or more days per week, 2-4 hours per day.
EVENT ASSISTANT Volunteer on special event days to assist with ticket and/or retail sales, traffic control, etc. Commitment: as needed, 3-6 hours/day.
DATA ENTRY Har-Ber Village collects a variety of data from its visitors. Help us to organize this data in Excel spreadsheets, enter names for mailing labels, assist with entering collections data.
PROPERTIES ASSISTANT Building, grounds and gardens maintenance projects abound! Tasks and commitment varies depending on project and volunteer availability.
TRADITIONAL CRAFTS/TRADES Do you have special skills or knowledge of traditional crafts or trades? Demonstrate these skills or teach or assist with an historic craft workshop. Sewing skills are occasionally needed to make and repair tour guide costumes.
MARKETING/PUBLIC RELATIONS Brochure and flyer distribution, writing and sending out press releases, and/or presenting informative talks to local groups about Har-Ber Village. Commitment one day per week/2-4 hours per day during the open season.
SALES ASSISTANT Volunteer in the Country Store. Greeting visitors, sales, restocking, inventory, cleaning, etc. are some of the duties of this position. Minimum commitment is one day per week, 2 to 4 hours per day.
EXHIBIT ASSISTANT Choose from one of several exhibits scheduled for “refreshing.” Research, design and object placement are all part of the job. Minimum commitment of one day per week, 2 to 4 hours per day.
